sharing secrets (over the rhine – ohio)

i’ve started contributing to an atlanta-based magazine called jive. my first review is of over the rhine‘s latest album, ohio. you can find it over here. as far as reviews go, or at least reviews i’ve done, it’s not bad. i think i could have done better, but i kept finding myself stuck in a pile of writer’s blocks, little legos of delay and slowness. must be the change of seasons or this pseudo-cold that’s been clouding my head or perhaps an increasing amount of work in my work. oh, well… i review, you decide.

other news… in october, we’ll be heading up to charlotte to hear neil gaiman speak at the blumenthal performing arts center. he is a guest of this year’s novello reading festival . now i’ve been a neil fan for over ten years, so getting to hear him talk about his work is pretty damned cool, but do you know what could be much cooler? do you? i’ll tell you.

the kickass editors at jive have made the arrangements to sit me down with the dream king himself for an interview.

it goes without saying that i’m a bit stunned by this turn of fortune, so i need your help. i’ve got a handful or three of questions for neil, but if you’re a fan yourself and you have always wanted to know this or that, then comment with your own questions and i’ll see what i can find out.

My advice to you – DO YOUR RESEARCH – for every interview I’ve witnessed (and there have been quite a few of them) – people normally like to be asked that “out of the box” question rather than the same stuff they get asked over and over again.

Just FYI, Gaiman was on NPR’s Talk of the Nation last thursday with Neil Gaiman, and some people asked some interesting questions. If you want, you can listen to it online here (Real Media). The entire program listing for that day can be found here.
