Going for Gold Men

Oscar noms were announced today. Nicole and Tom were ignored. Hobbits caught several considerations. And thankfully, Phil Collins is nowhere near the Best Song category. Hallelujah!

And so, without further ado, I present my yearly list of double-sided Oscar-ific predictions.

I am really irritated that not one ROTK actor was even nominated. Not even Sean Astin, who garnered tons of media attention.

I would agree, but I think that Astin’s performance will stand the test of time…which I think is more important than any award.

I must dissent on some of your pics. My predictions (at least for the more popular categories):

    ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE:
Bill Murray/Lost in Translation (though I’d be thrilled if Johnny Depp got it).

    ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE:
    Alec Baldwin/The Cooler

    ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE:
    Diane Keaton/Something’s Got to Give

    ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE:
    Holly Hunter/Thirteen

    DIRECTING:
    LOTR/The Return of the King

    MUSIC/SONG:
A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow/A Mighty Wind

    BEST PICTURE:
    Lost in Translation

I will submit that LOTR may win best picture, and in that case, then Lost in Translation should get best Directing. Either set-up is fine with me.

I have two movies to watch before I can confirm or deny your list.
