In the spirit of Lileks’ Interior Desecrations — without a doubt, one of the most hilarious collections on this or any other World Wide Web — allow me to share with you the contents of this sales brochure from a place called HODA … in a time called 1973.

And before you look, keep in mind that this is not just any random find. I grew up surrounded by the contents of this very catalog … and a few other pieces that must’ve come from earlier or later editions. You won’t see any mounted faux wrought-iron maces (complete with spikes and chains) in this Flickr set, but rest assured they were somewhere in the inventory.

    God the 70s were a hideous time for home decor.

    This is my favorite part from the Lileks collection: ” Toddlers around? Good! That eyepatch will set them apart in first grade, no? Give them an air of mystery.”

    Man, my mother had loads of this stuff. I never knew where it came from. I had lots of weird red velvet and wrought iron stuff decorating my club house, I asked her where it came from. She looked mildly embarresed and sniffed, “it was popular a while back”. This was circa 1986.

    I know you posted this over 5 years ago, but am so glad you did. I had been wracking my brain trying to remember the name of the company that made this stuff my mom used to have all over the house. Spent a lot of time on the search engines trying to find anything about it and finally came across your post. We actually had one of the candle holders pictured on the cover. I remember my dad measuring and marking to make sure he got it in just the right place. Hilarious indeed!
