With A Name Like Queen

DC Comics gets high marks for timing on this one. With the mayoral race in New Orleans heating up — witness the recent primary — it is quite interesting to watch how politics are being portrayed in the DC Universe analog to the Crescent City. Star City, for all intents and purposes, is NOLA. As Superman is to Metropolis, Green Arrow is to Star City. Instead of the devastating effects of a hurricane, Star City was ripped apart by bomb-happy arch-villains with a mad-on for Green Arrow.
As part of DC’s One Year Later event — the storylines of every major comic book were advanced 52 weeks ahead with little to no explanation of what happened in the interim — Oliver Queen (aka Green Arrow) has apparently hung up his quiver and traded his tights for a suit and tie. Why?
He’s the new mayor of Star City.
This is his first press conference. So again I say, Queen in 2006. He may be 2-dimensional and fictional, but he shows promise in the policy department …
