A Reverse Baptism of Censorship

I’m going to post this ridiculousness without comment.

“On Thursday night, monologist Mike Daisey was performing his well-reviewed solo show, Invincible Summer, in a 300-seat second-stage space at American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Mass., when about 80 members of a group got up and walked out. On their way out, one of the people walked up to Daisey, took his glass of water and poured it over his notes for the show.”*

After reading the initial story – I thought it might have just been a high school group that didn’t do their research before buying some theatre tickets – however that doesn’t explain why on earth someone would go up on stage and harass the artist.

I appreciate the right to free speech and the right to not listen to something that you find offensive, but it is unacceptable to disrupt others rights to either say what they want to or to listen to whatever is being said. And 87 people?? How on earth did they not know what they were going to see. It all doesn’t add up. People were commenting that Daisey might have been in on it since the house lights went up so quickly, but if you’re in a lighting booth and people move that fast – you have to assume that there might be an emergency or somthing.

The video is totally compelling. I can’t decide whether or not I think the group did it on purpose now. In their defense, you have to admit that the idea of having sex with Paris Hilton is pretty offensive.
