Trust Your Eyes Only As Far As You Can Throw Them

Neal Adams is still awesome.

What do you see? A face? Are you sure there aren’t two? You’re looking at only a portion of the not-yet-colored cover art for All-Star Batman and Robin The Boy Wonder #8. The artist is comics legend Neal Adams, perhaps most revered for his work on Green Lantern / Green Arrow in the early Seventies. Unfortunately, Neal’s contribution to ASBRTBW (?) #8 is a variant cover, meaning that most folks are going to be stuck with the regular run cover art by series writer Frank Miller.

Of course, even without reading the contents of this issue, a comic that won’t hit the stands for another few weeks, I’m pretty sure that the variant will be the best thing about it. Because awesome cover or no awesome cover, we’re still talking about Mr Miller’s current vision of the Caped Crusader, the so-called “Goddamn Batman.” Now, maybe the whole grittier-than-cement take on the hero is supposed to be taken as parody, but I really doubt it. After all, his plans to pit Batman against real-life super-villain Bin Laden are still underway. And he’s not joking.
