And someone's death does tend to make people consider an entire person, rather than just the newest iteration of their persona. I know I went back and listened to songs and watched videos I hadn't thought about in years. Thriller was the first LP I owned. It came out when I had just turned five, and my parents bought me a junky little record player to listen to it on. I'm not sure I ever even asked for another record after that before I moved on to tapes. I could recite the entire Vincent Price part from memory, and apparently did so often.
