I don't know that the outpouring of grief is phony from a lot of people, so much as people had disassociated weirdo late-life pederast Michael with the totally rad Michael from their childhoods. And someone's death does tend to make people consider an entire person, rather than just the newest iteration of their persona. I know I went back and listened to songs and watched videos I hadn't thought about in years.

Thriller was the first LP I owned. It came out when I had just turned five, and my parents bought me a junky little record player to listen to it on. I'm not sure I ever even asked for another record after that before I moved on to tapes. I could recite the entire Vincent Price part from memory, and apparently did so often.

“I’m great. And I’m calling to let … um … Billy? Yes, Billy. If you could let Billy know that his special order of copy of The Satanic Bible has arrived.”

Love it.

I don't recall ever ordering the Satanic Bible or Necronomican for any creepy kids while I worked at Waldenbooks, but I did like to loudly embarrass the teenagers trying to sneak around magazines to look at Playboy.

OMG. Pizza Hut was my first job, except I was a cook, not a waiter. It was a little delivery/carryout place in Great Neck Plaza. I biked to work every day.
And I ate a handmade personal pizza for lunch every day, desperately, desperately craving a Coke for accompaniment!

Then maybe you could have written Jobs I've Had: corpse in the trunk of a car.

It was awesome during March Madness when The Hut would bring mini basketballs with pizzas. Do they still do that? Been years since I've eaten there.
