Like A Man-Made Thing

Been working today.

Each task depended largely on the one before it. I installed a new white counter in the upstairs bathroom, using silicone to secure it to the vanity. I affixed a shiny faucet and drain to a replacement porcelain sink, using instructions penned by someone who learned English through Babelfish. Then I placed said sink in a pre-cut hole somewhere in the middle of aforementioned counter, sealing it with silicone. Finally, after attaching the feeder lines to the hot and the cold taps, I cheated a little on the drain by selectively assaulting the downpipe with even more silicone.

Did you notice the theme? I did. So much so, that I’ve had one particular song running through my head all afternoon. In all likelihood, you’ve never heard it.

When first I moved to Atlanta, I attended several concerts of a more folksy nature. Typically, these were at Eddie’s Attic or the Variety Playhouse. Most often, the artist being seen was a guy named David Wilcox. I discovered him through a single track on the end of the first Rare On Air compilation, then proceeded to pick up most of his discography, one CD at a time. Late in 1995, he released what his fans had wanted for the longest time: a live album called East Asheville Hardware. It is on this album that you will find the song that has been spinning through my head throughout the day.

So without further ado, I present …

Today’s Track:Boob Job (Live)” – David Wilcox (1995).

This short, brilliant bit of percussion-driven commentary on plastic surgery can be found on East Asheville Hardware (a CD that appears to be out-of-print, but available on iTunes). A newer live album was released in 2003 called Live Songs And Stories — but, alas, it is “Boob Job” free.

  1. I’ve actually heard of David Wilcox – a few months ago a friend made me a mix CD, and one of the songs was his “Leave it Like it is.” Good tune. i like this one too.

  2. Well get down! And pick ’em up again! Thanks…now I know what I will be singing all day!
