Too Hot To Do Anything But Listen

John Lemley‘s unnecessary reaffirmations of Atlanta’s high local temperature aside, it is incredibly hot. Outside, I mean. Really.

Nikki and I stepped out just this afternoon to do a some work in the lawn. She set about the removal of leaves. I had about a dozen seed potatoes to inter.* It wasn’t long until my t-shirt was soaked, my hands were red with clay and I was all but done. Much like a baked potato, actually. But I soldiered on, the potatoes took a dirt nap and I helped with a final push against a dwindling force of dead foliage. While we weren’t out long, much was accomplished.

But yeah … Smilin’ John has a point. While I would avoid using his prefered set of hyperbolic adjectives (“Murderously Hot?”), what we have around here is the kind of weather that drives us all into the comfort of almighty AC. In Trane We Trust.

So here are two versions of a singularly seasonal tune well worth hearing while recovering from that front-seat-to-front-door oven-blasted dash. Enjoy.

* – Yeah. We gots potatoes. We’ll see if anything comes of them.

  1. Mmmmm… ‘taters.
I’ll bet its so hot out that you could pull them out of the ground, and they’d already be baked… or maybe even twice-baked! 😉

  2. I have Janis’s version.

Maybe I’ll just post different versions of this song throughout the week. Given that I went through a persistent Gershwin phase, I might just make it all the way to Friday.
